After months of consideration, Durbin Town Council made an exception to the building code ordinance at the monthly meeting December 11 to allow Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity to build three new houses on the plot of land it owns in Durbin.

The national Farm-to-School initiative aims to bring more fresh, local produce and food into school lunches. West Virginia started participating in the program about three years ago, and Pocahontas County has been involved to varying degrees since then, as well.

Local students visited Pocahontas Woods in Marlinton last week to make wooden Christmas ornaments. Lauren Bennett, director of Pocahontas County Parks and Rec, helped organize the class and she said students have done similar woodworking activities in years past at the facility.
