Anybody assigned to Pocahontas County community corrections (CC) who thought they were going to game the system is in for a rude awakening. Program coordinator Elissa Taylor is making sure offenders in the alternative sentencing program are playing by the rules.

Marlinton is a town where the sidewalks roll up at 5 p.m. and there's not much to do for fun. Many small communities suffer from the same lack of entertainment options. The problem is more than aesthetic because young people with nothing to do often seek excitement using alcohol or drugs.

A Hillsboro man indicted last year on three charges of delivering a Schedule II controlled substance was acquitted Wednesday after a jury trial. Robert Randall Hall, 54, did not testify during his two-day trial. The jury returned a not guilty verdict in less than half an hour.

The earth gave up more secrets when archeologists and students sifted through the dirt at Warwick's Fort last week. The archeologists arrived in Green Bank on Monday and excavated rectangular segments of the Revolutionary War - era garrison throughout the week.

Board of education members voted unanimously to select C.C. Lester, of Richwood, as Pocahontas County Schools Superintendent at Monday night's meeting.
Lester will begin his job July 1, when current superintendent Dr. J. Patrick Law moves to be superintendent in Wood County.
