Pocahontas County High School girls basketball head coach Mike Kane attended the Region 2 sectional basketball seeding meeting on Sunday, February 10. Coaches could attend the meeting or just mail in their ballots to seed the teams.
It had only been five days since the Pocahontas County Lady Warriors traveled to Moorefield and beat the YellowJackets 54-28. And at first it appeared that this second match-up at PCHS on January 23 might be different.
Maybe the Lady Warriors basketball team was thinking too much on Friday at Pendleton County about Saturday’s first ever regular season match-up in girls basketball with Charleston Catholic.

First soccer rankings

The PCHS boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Class AAA Greenbrier East on Thursday, August 23 to open their soccer season. The Spartans held on for a 1-0 victory over the Warriors in the first match, and the East boys improved to 2-0-1 while the PCHS boys dropped to 0-1.
Senior Jesse Taylor's fourth place finish in the high jump (5-10) was the highest medal earned by a 2012 Pocahontas County High School competitor at the 2012 State Track Meet held May 19-20 at Laidley Field in Charleston.
Two years ago the #7 ranked 2010 PCHS Boys Track Team came within five points (180 - 185) of upsetting the then #3-ranked Richwood (RHS) team at regionals after taking the crown in 2009 with a record 183 points.

Retired veteran Pocahontas County High School track coach Delmos Barb was hired by the board of education to finish out the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year as head boys track coach effective April 25.
Coach Kay Wiley took the two Pocahontas County High School track teams across Kennison Mountain to Richwood on Tuesday, April 17, for the second time this season. With spring break it had been 17 days since PCHS competed in their first meet at Richwood on March 30.
