Lady Warriors having successful season
The Pocahontas County Lady Warrior Volleyball team traveled twice to the Potomac Valley last week to face PVC rivals Petersburg, the West Virginia School for the Deaf (WVSD) and Moorefield.
Monday evening had the Lady Warriors facing the Petersburg Vikings and the WVSD in a PVC trimatch at Petersburg.ᅠᅠ
The Lady Warriors defeated the Vikings in two sets, 26-24 and 25-18 and played effective defense to rack up another PVC win.ᅠᅠ
Shelby Snead was high scorer with 13 serving points and Chloe Bland delivered nine. Miranda McNabb followed with seven. The Lady Warriors did not launch an effective offensive attack, but were very steady picking up the Viking attack.
The next game saw the Lady Warriors facing the Lady Lions of WVSD. The Lady Warriors swept the match 25-12, 25-13.ᅠᅠ Shelby Snead was again high scorer with 13 serving points and classmate Karen Wilfong chipped in seven and sister Heather Snead fired in another seven. Bland recorded three kills on the night and Sarah Shears responded with one, as did Snead and McNabb.
Tuesday had the Lady Warriors traveling to Moorefield for another back to back PVC match.ᅠᅠ
The Junior Varsity team suffered their first loss of the season to Moorefield. Rebecca Jerome and Kary Barb were high scorers on the night with seven each and Barb responded offensively with five kills. Andie Watts contributed five serving points in the 17-25, 15-25 defeat.ᅠᅠ
The Varsity Lady Warriors also met defeat 23-25, 18-25 and 12-25. The back-to-back games and traveling made for a team that just could not effectively launch a solid attack against the Yellowjackets. Shelby Snead led the scoring again with 10 serves followed by Miranda McNabb with nine.ᅠᅠ McNabb led the spiking attack with five kills with Bland recording four.ᅠᅠ
Thursday saw the Lady Warriors hosting the Lady Bulldogs of Tygarts Valley. Warrior Coliseum was packed with family and fans for just the second home game of the season.ᅠᅠ
This time honored rivalry proved to be an exciting game with the Lady Warriors exhibiting their athleticism and power with a 25-22, 25-11, 25-17 sweep of the best of five match. Once again the steady serve of Shelby Snead garnered 14 points for the Lady Warriors and Karen Wilfong and Heather Snead both chipped in six. The thrilling match featured a total of 49 spiking attacks and 23 kills.ᅠᅠ
Setters Snead and Shears launched a total of 47 sets and Bland connected 11 times and achieved nine kills. Junior classmate Miranda McNabb followed with seven attempts and threw down four kills. Shears and Wilfong added three kills each for a stunning defeat of the Lady Bulldogs.ᅠᅠ
This week has the Lady Warriors traveling to Pendleton County on Thursday for another PVC match and to Paw Paw in Morgan County for the PVC Tournament on Saturday.
