PCMS Warriors chomp Glade Bulldogs, 42-6

Warriors blazed 299 yards, held Glade Middle School to 52 and mangled the Bulldogs to claim their fourth consecutive win.

"The guys did a great job of preparing and then going out and executing the game plan for this game. We were able to establish the running game early on and set the tone for the game," said Coach Doug Burns.
Chad Friel kicked off for the Warriors and the Pocahontas defense was on the prowl, allowing Glade zero gain on their first offense. Drake Warder and Dalton Irvine stopped them for a five- yard loss then Warder, Danny Kimble and Justin Hendrick joined forces for a sack.
TB Cade Walker quickly took the Warriors 14 yards to first down. FB Chase Erlewine found another with a 28 yard run, then he set his sights on the end-zone. He reached it with a 12 yard run earning the Warriors the first TD of the night. Walker ran in the PAT and Pocahontas led the Bulldogs by eight.
Tommy Gruelick, Wyatt Workman and Morgan Mason took the Bulldogs down for a loss followed by Dalton Irvine who broke up their next pass. Tyler Owens put the stop on their next two plays. Later, a 25 yard pass put Glade on the scoreboard but their offense was no match for Workman, Walker and Ryan Dilley for the PAT. Bulldogs trailed Pocahontas 8 - 6.
Logan Davis gained the Warriors 12 yards with the kick return then Erlewine rushed 53 yards for a first down. On his second drive Walker took it all the way with an eight-yard run for the TD and QB Workman brought in the PAT.
Glade's next possession was short-lived. Workman intercepted a pass and ran it 35 yards for the third Warrior TD. Walker added the two extra points and Pocahontas was over Glade 24 - 6.
J.D. Hensler, Trey Walton and Chad Friel stopped Glade's kick return and Erlewine took them down for a loss on their next drive. Pressure from Irvine interrupted their next pass play then he delivered a sack with Walker. The Bulldog's fake punt play was brought down by Dylan Riffey and a gang of fellow Warriors, turning the ball over on downs.
With help from Mason, Walker seized the 17 yards needed to run in the fourth Pocahontas TD. Workman sailed a pass to Irvine who completed it for the PAT.
Friel's 50 yard kick to Glade went unfielded and a steady Warrior defense kept them contained. On fourth down, Walker recovered a Bulldog fumble that he later rushed in for the fifth Warrior TD. Erlewine ran in the PAT, padding the score by two.
Pressure from Irvine and Workman broke up two Glade passes. An interception by Dilley gave the ball back to Mason and Walton who took it to first down just shy of the half.
"Our line continues to improve each week and our backs are doing a real good job of hitting the holes and being physical. Defensively, I was very proud of our coaches and players for being able to make some adjustments after their first drive and really shutting them down the rest of the game," Burns said.
Travis Paulowski joined the field with Mason who opened the half with a kick return. Friel drove the ball down field. An eager Bulldog defense turned the ball over on downs yet their offense was met by Erlewine who broke up a pass, and then by Walker and Davis who held them with no gain. Keith Harrah and Kyle Lester helped Erlewine stop them for a loss and possession returned to Pocahontas.
Jacob Walton, Levi Ryder and Conlin Halterman helped Friel and Walton take turns getting the Warriors to three first downs, still the ball turned over deep in Glade territory. Caleb Bennett and an eager gang of Warriors charged and tackled the Bulldogs in their own end-zone. With less than two minutes remaining, the Bulldog's could smell defeat, 42 - 6.
Trevor McPeak and Andy Sipe joined the Warriors for kick off. Davis fielded, gained 20 yards and assisted by Caleb Mullenax, he took turns driving the ball with Anthony Jaggie. Later, Davis had fans in a frenzy by rushing 42 yards and stopping just shy of the end zone. With seconds remaining, Workman took a knee and Pocahontas brought home their fourth consecutive victory.
Erlewine rushed 100 yards for one TD, one PAT, a pass break up and five tackles. Walker rushed 75 yards for three TDs, two PATs, one sack, a fumble recovery and three tackles. Workman rushed an interception 35 yards for one TD, ran in a PAT, threw a pass for another and had three tackles. Irvine caught Workman's pass for a PAT, broke up a pass, helped with a sack and three tackles.
