PCHS volleyball girls bring home state honors
Miranda McNabb and Chloe Bland, senior co-captains, Pocahontas County High School, earned All State Honors at the completion of the Lady Warrior Volleyball season. Coach Kay Wiley took the helm of the team in the early season and orchestrated a finely tuned team that ended their season with an appearance at the annual WVSSAC State Tournament.
McNabb garnered Special Honorable Mention, while Bland was named to the Second Team All-State Roster. McNabb earned her honors by consistently firing in a jump serve and by launching a hitting attack that intimidated the opposition.
Bland's coolness on the court afforded a stellar defense as well as a colossal middle hit that collected many points for the Lady Warriors.
McNabb and Bland led the team to their first state tournament appearance in seven years. Their leadership and brand of play influenced the rest of the team to produce a fabulous attack that will follow them into the next few seasons.
The pair were joined in the effort by power hitters Heather Snead and Tiffany Alexander, defensive ace Cassidy Rao, and setting specialists Rebecca Jerome and Cayla Brown.
McNabb and Bland will next lend their leadership to the Lady Warrior basketball team and will be joined by tri-captain Erin White. The Lady Warriors will be on the warpath to continue their collection of sectional and regional wins as well as the pursuit of a state title.
All three of these athletes have also proven their muster in the area of academics and represent the Pocahontas Community well as scholar athletes and student leaders.
