Warriors take Bulldogs in home opener, 6-2
The Warriors beat the Bulldogs, 6-2, Monday night in their home-opener. Pocahontas County and Tygarts Valley faced off early in the month, and the Warriors were handed a 3-4 loss at Tygarts Valley. The Warriors have won two-in-a-row now after their win over Barbour last week, and their overall record stands at 3-4.
The Warriors started Monday's game with a show of defensive competence by putting away the first three Bulldog batters. They followed up with four runs in the bottom of the first inning for an early lead they held the rest of the game.
Warrior pitcher Garret Clark held the Bulldogs to two runs, one in the third inning and one in the fourth. Clark struck out 11 batters and walked six in his first win of the season.
Senior Steven Halterman led off for the Warriors in the third inning and cranked out a home run, his second of the season. He followed suit at his next at-bat in the fifth inning, when he led off again for the Warriors and slugged another home run.
Halterman went three-for-three, scored three runs, with two RBIs, and a stolen base. Spencer McCoy was two-for-two, one of his hits a double. McCoy scored a run in the first inning and had two RBIs and two stolen bases. Dillon Hovorka went one-for-two, scored a run in the first inning, and had a stolen base. Wes Felton went one-for-four - one of them a double - and scored a run in the first inning. Clark went one-for-two. Cody Sharp was one-for-three. Brandon Hamons went 0-for-two. Dalton Walker was 0-for-four. Matthew Arbogast was 0-for two.
The Warriors are scheduled to play their next home game against Union in a double-header Saturday, April 14. The first game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
