Three PCHS soccer matches cancelled last week

Warriors nipped 0-1 at East

The PCHS boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Class AAA Greenbrier East on Thursday, August 23 to open their soccer season. The Spartans held on for a 1-0 victory over the Warriors in the first match, and the East boys improved to 2-0-1 while the PCHS boys dropped to 0-1. East’s other win this season was to 0-4 Class AAA Ripley, and their tie was to 0-2 Class AAA St. Albans.

Lightning on the East field resulted in the cancellation of the girls match, so it remains unknown how last year’s #15 ranked PCHS squad in combined Class A/AA and the #15 ranked East squad in AAA would match up this year.

The two PCHS squads were due to travel to Frankfort on Saturday, August 25, for matches with the young 1-0 boys (one senior on roster of 14) and the experienced 1-1 girls (six seniors on roster of 23) Frankfort teams. The matches were cancelled when Frankfort was not able to field a boys squad for that match. Both Frankfort squads play schedules that are divided between Maryland and West Virginia opponents. The boys played unranked Frankford to a 2-2 tie last season at Dunmore, and the #15 PCHS girls lost 3-4 to #12 Frankfort also at PCHS.

Schedule changes since the yellow schedules were produced have kept PCHS soccer coordinator Cindy Pritt busy, so check the WVSSAC site at http://www.wvssac.org/ new_site/WVSSAC_Web Site/HTML/sportssched ules.asp for the latest PCHS girls and boys soccer schedules.

Both boys matches with James Monroe and both girls matches with Tygarts Valley have been cancelled due to lack of players on the two opposing squads. Matches at Wyoming East on Saturday, September 22 have been added to both PCHS schedules. The Sissonville girls match will be played at Beckley as in the past, but the Sissonville boys match will be played at PCHS.

The Warriors now play only two Class A opponents, and the Lady Warriors play only one Class A school. All other opponents are Class AA and AAA schools.
