The Pocahontas County High School squad lost to Parkersburg Catholic at Parkersburg, 20-14. Warrior running back Kyler Doss scored two touchdowns with help from quarterback Wesley Felton.

Warrior head coach Chris Sutton said the squad is employing a “wildcat” offensive strategy.

“You don't really have a quarterback,” said Sutton. “It's more of a direct snap to whichever guy is running.”

Sutton said the team is finding their groove despite the two losses this season.

“It's a work in progress,” said Sutton. “I think the end of the game we started to really come alive. In the second half we shut 'em out and scored seven points. It's something that's comin' along.”

Sutton said the team's focus on blocking this past week is coming along, as well.

“I believe at this point we're a little more knowledgable about our blocking assignments,” said Sutton. “We still need work as far as executing those blocking assignments — we're having a little trouble maintaining blocks, that's something we're really gonna focus on the next three days.”

Sutton said the Crusaders were careful with their kick-offs in an attempt to thwart Doss.

“We didn't get much of a chance on kick-offs,” said Sutton. “They were kickin' it short trying to keep the ball out of Kyler's hands.”

Sutton said he was pleased with the defense's performance.

“I think our defense played a good game,” commented Sutton. “If we can take care of blocking execution, we'll be in good shape next week.”

The Warriors are scheduled to play on the road against the Pendleton County Wildcats Friday, September 7, at 7:30 p.m.
