Snowshoe Mountain hosts GNCC Off-Road Racing
Snowshoe Mountain is pleased to welcome back Morgantown-based Racer Productions and the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Series for this weekendメs off-road racing event. Now in its fourth year, the Snowshoe GNCC is pleased to welcome back Motorcycle-USA.com as a title sponsor of the event, which has been billed as the toughest and most unique stop on the GNCC tour. Motorcycle-USA.com has put up a $50,000 purse for the event, which is sure to increase the already intense competition between the worldメs best off-road athletes. ATV racing will take place on Saturday, June 26, with motorcycle racing following on Sunday, June 27.
Racer Productions originated and operates the highly successful GNCC Series, which returned to West Virginia in 2007 for the first time in more than 10 years. The family-friendly six-race weekend will include ATV and dirt bike races at the youth, amateur and pro-level. Racing begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday with the youth ATV class, followed by the amateur ATV heat at 10 a.m. and the pro class start at 1 p.m. On Sunday, the youth once again begin the day with an 8 a.m. start in the bike category, followed by the amateur and pro classes at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
Spectator passes are $15 for the full weekend, with pro pit access and pro autographs at no additional charge. The course will provide several great vantage points for spectators, including the unique starting line, which is situated just outside Snowshoeメs mountaintop Village. In addition to all of the weekendメs race action, guests will be treated to family friendly activities in Snowshoeメs Village, as well as the resortメs many dining and shopping options, Shavers Lake activities and the Split Rock Pool facilities.
Visitors to the resort will encounter changes to the traffic patterns on Snowshoe Drive throughout the weekend. All visitors will be required to enter via the North entrance off of Rt 66, just beyond the Inn at Snowshoe. Event wrist bands will be required for entrance to the resort for the weekend, and may be purchased at the Inn at Snowshoe. A road block will be in place, directing all traffic through the GNCC checkpoint.
The south mountain entrance on Rt 66 towards Cass,ᅠ will be closed to entering traffic throughout the weekend. During race periods, Snowshoe Dr. will be closed in front ofᅠ Snowshoe Village. Snowshoe will operate its shuttle system throughout the weekend, offering easy access from public parking areas to the Snowshoe Village and other points of interest on the mountain. Many of Snowshoeメs summer activities will also operate on special schedules for the weekend; scenic lift rides will be open only to spectators with a GNCC event wristband, the Snowshoe Mountain Bike Park and Segway tours will be closed for the duration of the event and GreenZebra off-road buggy tours will offer only a 6 p.m. tour daily during the event weekend.
Snowshoeメs mountaintop lodging provides convenient access to the race course, as well as all resort activities. Lodging packages are still available and start at just $85 per person, per night, including breakfast and a Fun Pass, granting you access to Snowshoeメs most popular summer activities.
