Warriors place second in PVC tournament, lose to Pendleton on the road

The Warriors were unable to host Pendleton County on February 15 due to inclement weather.

The contest was moved to February 19.

The Warriors were forced to cancel their second game of the week on February 18 as the team was unable to make the trip to Harman due to harsh winter weather conditions.

The contest has not yet been rescheduled.

The fifth-ranked Warriors (9-3) fell 58-62 at Pendleton County last Friday night.

The game was the first in 16 days for PCHS and the extended layover proved to be a critical factor early.

The Wildcats outscored the Warriors 17-4 in the opening quarter and fought off a ferocious comeback effort to clinch the win.

Both teams utilized a strong perimeter game and combined for 17 made shots from beyond the arc.

Senior Jimmy Wiley scored a game-high 19 points to lead PCHS.

Junior Tanner Graham fired in 14 points.

Senior Jerry Simonin and sophomore Jed Sheets added 11 points each.

Wiley also led the Warriors with four assists and six rebounds.

Sheets recorded the only blocked shot of the night for PCHS.

The fifth-ranked Warriors (9-4) faced off against second-ranked Tucker County (12-1) in the championship game of the Potomac Valley Conference Tournament at Petersburg last Saturday.

The Mt. Lions downed PCHS 66-53 to claim the PVC championship.

Tucker County led by six after the first quarter and clung to a 31-26 lead at the half.

PCHS stormed back in the third with an 18-15 scoring advantage to cut the Mt. Lion lead to three points with one quarter remaining.

Tucker County quickly dashed any hope of a PCHS comeback with a late 20-10 scoring run to clinch the win.

Sophomore Jed Sheets paced the Warrior offense with a season-high 18 points and four assists.

Senior Jimmy Wiley added 14 points, including four three-pointers, and five rebounds.

Junior Tanner Graham grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while classmate Lakota Jonese recorded the only blocked shot of the game for PCHS.

Wiley also won the PVC Three-Point Shooting contest.
