PCHS Boys second of 17 teams at Fayetteville Lions Club Meet





A select group from the two Pocahontas County High School Track Teams traveled to Oak Hill on Friday, May 7, for their final big warm up before regionals.

The boys track team placed second in a 17-team field that included nine class AA and AAA schools.ᅠ Three class A teams took the top three spots:ᅠ #3 ranked Charleston Catholic placed first (100 points); #7 Pocahontas grabbed 2nd (83); and #3 Richwood took third (76).ᅠ The Warriors' win over Richwood was its first this season over the higher-ranked Lumberjacks.

The class AA #1 ranked Oak Hill girls team dominated their 12-team meet with 141 points, and class AAA Nicholas County was second (104).ᅠ The two highest scoring A-teams were #4 ranked Charleston Catholic in third (75) and Richwood in sixth (44).

Gold medalists for Pocahontas were:ᅠ Tanner Graham - 400m, the boys 4x400m team in a time almost two seconds faster than their #3-ranked time in the state, and Evan Rose - discus with a throw about eight feet longer that his previous best and about sixth-best in West Virginia.

Silver medalists:ᅠ Graham - 200m, Abe Rittenhouse - 3200m and the 1600m in a time only .03 second behind Chaffin of Richwood.

Bronze medalists:ᅠ Rose - shot put, Rittenhouse - 800m, and the boys 4x200m improved their #6-ranked time by one second.ᅠ The top four places in the 800m featured A-runners ranked from #2 to #5 in WV.

Fourth places:ᅠ Jesse Bolyard - 300m hurdles and the boys shuttle hurdles team.

Fifth places:ᅠ the boys 4x800m team.

Sixth places:ᅠ Olivia Workman - 800m, and Jerry Simonin - high jump.
