Green Bank Middle School Quiz Bowl Team takes silver
Six students from Green Bank Middle School traveled to Parkersburg to compete against other middle school academic quiz bowl teams on May 14, a fine, sunny Saturday.
Parkersburg Catholic High School did a wonderful job hosting the tournament, and everything ran smoothly from the scheduling to the pizza at lunch. Most of the teams were from the western side of the state.
The Green Bank team had won six out of seven rounds during the morning, each round consisting of 25 toss-up questions, and a worksheet on which the teams confer to answer 15 questions. They finished the tournament by winning seven out of nine rounds all together.
When they finally played the leading team, Jackson-A, Green Bank lost the round by only one question. The teams shook hands and congratulated each other on playing such a fine round, then gathered at the end of the competition for the awards ceremony. Green Bank Middle School won the second place trophy.
The students have been practicing throughout the school year for the spring competition, with Enrichment teacher, Christine Smith, as their coach. Leslie Goodall and Patty McNeel transported and encouraged the students, and Principal Ruth Bland at Green Bank Middle School faithfully supported the academic team.
